HOW TO PREPARE FORMULA FEED ?

HOW TO PREPARE FORMULA FEED ?

Dear Parents,
In busy practice, we doctors do not have the time to counsel regarding feeding. We all know mothers milk is best for the baby , inspite of that sometimes due to inadequate milk production or due to some contraindication for breast feeding we have to prescribe formula feed to the baby. But it is very important to prepare it correctly. And here is all you have to know 👇

STEP1- HAND HYGIENE
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water and air dry.

STEP2- BOIL WATER

In a clean steel container put some water and put on gas until you see steam coming from the water. Once you see steam coming out, your water is ready to use. You can switch off the gas.

Remember its very important to have the water at correct temperature as if water will be too hot and cold ,then it will lead to formation of clumps of milk powder.

STEP3- ADD FORMULA POWDER

Pour desired amount of water into the bottle. I will advise you to pour water in multiples of 30. For example 30 ml-60 ml-90 ml because almost all the formula feeds have instructions of 30 ml water with one levelled scoop of formula powder. So if your baby is feeding 40 ml, it would be better to make 60 ml with 2 scoops of levelled formula powder.

Remember the scoop is provided with the formula feed powder. Please don use teaspoons at home.
Remember the formula feed should be LEVELLED and not heaped.

STEP4- SHAKE GENTLY

Now shake the bottle or utensil in which you are preparing gently to dissolve the powder.

STEP5- CHECK THE MILK TEMPERATURE

Before giving to your baby , just check the temperature of prepared milk on your wrist. Make sure milk should feel luke warm, not too hot and not too cold.

Remember try to feed the baby through katori and spoon / palladai. Use bottle only if you can maintain adequate hygiene.
